If you buy auto insurance in PEI you will need to familiarize yourself with “direct compensation property damage”.

Section 14 (DCPD provisions) of Bill 46 was recently proclaimed by the Superintendent of Insurance for Prince Edward Island, and will be implemented October 1, 2015.

Under this new coverage, the policyholder’s insurance company pays for any damage to the vehicle, its contents and for loss of use, and will not seek property damage recovery from the other party.

For those of us who think of insurance settlements on basis of fault, this is a significant change.
