My grandfather was a hard rock New England farmer. He worked long and hard for what he had and he took care of his equipment. I remember him saying to me, “boy, a man who doesn’t take care of his equipment doesn’t deserve to have it”.

In 1994 I needed a new push mower and I bought the cheapest one I could find which was at home hardware and it has a Tecumseh motor. I never checked the oil, never cleaned the air filter and don’t bother to put fuel stabilizer in when Fall arrives. It just gets pushed back in the corner when it’s time to put away for the winter.

Every year it starts on the first pull and works as well today as it did in 1994. I am careful to apply all scheduled maintenance to the other machines that I have but somehow I never get around to this little push mower.

Not sure what conclusions can be made.
