I admire the simplicity and functionality of Viking style knives. Used as an every day tool (as well as gutting Saxons) the all around usefulness and simple design appeals to me.

My first attempt to create something similar shows my (frustrating to me) lack of skills but has been a fun project. I started with a Norwegian blade blank. Then a block of Curly Birch.

Friend Dave helped me drill a small pilot hole through the block (only power tool used). Then I burned the hole to match the blade blank tang.

Almost finished.
