In 1968 girlfriend (became wife a year later) hiked 4 miles into the adirondack wilderness to stay at a rustic cabin a friend owned. We spent a wonderful night in front of a huge crackling fireplace. In the morning we made our way to the burbling brook to fill the coffee pot.

Without comment girlfriend pointed to bare human like footprint in sand beside brook. There was only one and it was about 5 times the size of a normal footprint. We returned to the cabin, packed and left. Quickly.

We never went back and to this day I wonder.
